What is it?
Neighborhood Watch is a joint effort between our community and the Aurora Police Department to educate residents regarding roles and
responsibilities in the prevention of crime, and to encourage the taking of active measures to prevent crime. The program calls upon
residents to step forward and assist the police in organizing the community into a cohesive unit working toward the goal of building
a safer, crime-free neighborhood. Neighborhood Watch groups discuss neighborhood crime problems with the objective of developing solutions
to local problems. The Aurora Police Department supplies crime information to neighborhood watch organizations and instructs these groups in
various crime prevention techniques.
How does it work?
Our Neighborhood Watch program works through the use of an
e-mail communication tree. Important information from the Aurora
Police Department regarding our neighborhood, is forwarded to
each participating resident in a timely manner. Each area has
a block captain that is responsible for his/her area of residents.
Currently we have around 30 block captains and over 300 participating
households - but we need block captains for every street.
Training on becoming an effective block captain is available.
How do I join?
If you have not yet been contacted by a block captain, please contact
our Area Coordinator Lynn Bradley to join. With approximately 500 households in our neighborhood, we need more block captains and
participants. It's easy and painless to take an active part in being informed about the safety of our community!
